Trigger Control
In many cases of power electronics application, such as thyristor, IGBT, IGCT, GTO, etc, more than one channel of the triggering, control and/or monitoring signal are needed. For the purpose of electric potential isolation and avoiding signal distortion due to EMI immunity, fiber cable is ideal transmission interface. Thus more than one channel of light sources and cables apply.
The problems caused by the design include:
1 lower system reliability due to increased components and interfaces
2 high cost due to adoption of expensive optical cable bearing high voltage
3 increased cost and lowered system reliability due to increased light sources.
Sumex recommended solution is to choose multimode star coupler, MSC, to replace multi channel cable and light source to reduce the system cost and achieve higher reliability.
The MSC we provided has been approved its reliability in the application of advanced aircraft, international space station, SVC and HVDC systems.
